If you would like to start A Psalm 139 Devotional from Day 1, read, “Search me, God, and Know my Heart.”
19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
I’ve always found David to be a little harsh and unrelatable to me in this way. He was a military leader and warrior, which I have zero experience with. Though far from a hippie, I prefer to intercede on the behalf of others. I am in no way naive but like to think the best of others. And while that is good and well, there should be something deep within us that hates evil. We must unleash the warrior within that wants to wage war against the enemy and completely annihilate him. Yes, Christ already did that on our behalf.
However, we know there is still a spiritual battle going on which we must fight during our short time on this earth. We must put on the full armor as we have been instructed in order to defeat our adversary. We know we don’t flight against man but against spirits and principalities. But fight, we must!
Lord, make us like David, a man after your own heart. Help us to focus more on your kingdom and less on ourselves. May we be woman who hate what you hate and fight for what you love. Give us eyes that are open to your truth. Give us discernment to know when we need to fight and humility to know when we need to serve. Help us to be more concerned with the eternal than the natural. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
